It’s About Hands-On Experience
Cloud computing, like cybersecurity, is all about practicing. This is one of those skills that cannot be learned just by watching videos. It’s like learning how to drive a manual transmission car; you have to actually drive the car — press the clutch, give it gas, shift gears, etc. It requires a lot of practice. AWS is no different.
I set up my AWS account back in 2022 and started doing small projects right away. I quickly learned the basics of VPC, EC2, and S3. It was actually fun. But I always wanted to learn about AWS RDS, which is their Database PaaS offering. The main difference with other mainstream services, though, is that AWS RDS does not have a free tier. Using it, even for testing purposes, will result in some expenses. Nothing extraordinary (in theory), as long as you set it up, play with it, and terminate the instance when done. Maybe $10 or $20?
