A lot has been written or discussed about OSCP exam tips (pentesting tips), but not much attention has been given to the necessary hardware and software for a smooth exam experience. In this blog, I will share my hardware, software, and room environment recommendations, based on both my own experience and advice from experts who work remotely, to help you boost your productivity while taking the test. The Right Laptop for the Job
Choosing the right laptop for the OSCP exam doesn’t have to break the bank. You don’t need a high-performance powerhouse, but you do need something reliable that won’t fail during the test or struggle to handle the Kali VM (and yes, I’ll discuss the VM setup later).
In terms of processor speed, a multi-core processor like an Intel i7/i9 or AMD Ryzen 7/9 is recommended for efficient task handling. Although the Kali VM itself doesn’t need more than 2 vCPUs, these processors are standard in most modern laptops. As a result, any laptop that’s less than four years old, whether new or used, should suffice.
